Amidst the hectic headlines of the past few months, one that has been significantly overshadowed is a recent U.N. decision. Their Commission on Narcotic Drugs voted to reclassify cannabis, no longer considering it one of the most dangerous substances on the same level as cocaine, opiates and the like. The commission acknowledges the medical benefits of cannabis, as well as its potential to be abused and cause side effects with heavy use. The decision came after the World Health Organization recommendation to make cannabis research more accessible, which is not the case with restrictive measures around dangerous substances.
